It's always been in the back of my mind to do this. Cycle from Lands End to John o' Groats. And on top of this, it would be best if I could do this all by myself - carrying everything I need to survive on my bike. Tent, Sleeping Bag, Gas burner, Food.
I picked the last fortnight in May because it was the week before, and the week of half term. This meant that I could do the first half all by myself, and the second half I could spend the evenings with my family. They could also carry the heavy stuff for me.
Inevitably, family intervened, and my parents decided they would be available for the whole for the first week, so that I would not have to carry anything more that I needed for the daytime. They were to meet me at Tavistick,so I would need to carry everything from Lands End to there (Day 1) as I would need the tent etc the night before I started, and because Glastonbury is close to home they weren't going to stay there - only meet me with the tent etc, so I would have to carry it from there to Monmouth (Day 3). It's fair to say that Day 1 and Day 3 were very tough - if someone offers to carry your tent you should accept this offer gratefully.
